Winterfylleth: The threnody of triumph

27/12/12  ||  sincan

Winterfylleth is a band which I have just overlooked. I guess it all has to do with the name which sound awesomely stupid, most likely because I’m Swedish and it then sounds like some black metal fun and balloon joy-project with drunken dwarfs. The other thing that made me walk around this band while staring down on my phone looking busy is because of this. I know that one shouldn’t judge someone by the looks, but when we talk about black metal you pretty much have to convince me if there’s no long or totally shaved hair (I’m speaking of the hair on the head here…)

But then I read some interesting stuff about this specific album a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a shoot. Said and done I received my copy of the album and put it into the music playing device of only metal and death. I listened once and twice and so on, my first impression was that it sounded like some “Wolves In the Throne Room” copy (American forest loving black metal).

I’ve been pretty busy lately (as always, as everyone else) with all chicks, drugs, booze, fast cars etc. (not as everyone else) so I have mostly listened to this album while doing something else, that is not fucking fair to this type of music since it is pretty easy to “listen to” compared to listen to. This made me think that everything sounded pretty the same and plain. But then I actually broke through the thick ice with my almighty attention and a new version of this album was laying there, like a beautiful naked virgin on a red velvet cloth placed on the snowy soil… Where were I, yes, so now I enter the land of Winterfylleth every time I put on this record and I’m appreciating it, really fucking much!

If I should try to describe the music I would add two parts of “Wittr”, one part of “Drudkh” and two parts of snow covered mountains. And since I fucken love those bands and snow covered mountains this is a pretty neat description if I may say so myself, and I fucking might since it’s my review! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the characteristic diesel generator style drumming, and yes it is all there baby! The clean choir vocals they use on some of the track is really nice for the atmosphere, so is the epic guitars that are present from time to time, giving this album its personality.

I can only speak for myself and a few fellow dudes when I say that when I look out from my window, all I can see is snow, snow and more snow and this album works really good as a soundtrack during this almighty and cold majestic winter. So do yourself a favor, get that fire going, get something nice to drink, sit back and just listen! Embrace yourself, winter is coming!
